I’m going to share with you the history behind the origin of kickboxing and explain why it’s called “kickboxing.” I’ll also tell you why kickboxing is not just another martial art.
The word “kick” comes from the Latin word for foot. This is why we call it “foot-fighting.” But what does “boxing” mean? In English, “boxing” means “to fight with your fists.” So, “boxing + foot fighting kickboxing.”
The History of Kickboxing
Kickboxing is one of the oldest combat sports known to man. It began in the early 1900s when Japanese immigrants brought their traditional martial arts into America. They added elements of boxing and wrestling to develop a unique sport.
In the 1960s, the popularity of American football declined. So did the number of boxers competing in professional matches. Many boxers turned to amateur competitions to make money.
This is where kickboxing came in. Amateur kickboxers became popular because they could still compete while making a living wage.
Today, there are over 30 styles of kickboxing. Each style has its own rules and techniques. But most styles use similar moves like punches, kicks, knees, elbows, headbutts, takedowns, throws, sweeps, etc.

Adithada is one of the most popular forms of kickboxing in India. It originated in the state of Tamil Nadu, where people use traditional weapons such as sticks and swords. Some people even use wooden clubs. They fight barefoot and wear no protective gear. Adithada is similar to karate, except that it uses fists, elbows, knees, and feet.
In America, there are many styles of kickboxing, including Muay Thai, Brazilian jiujitsu, and kickboxing. These styles differ from each other because they use different techniques. For example, Muay Thai focuses more on kicking and striking, while Brazilian jiujitsu emphasizes grappling and submission holds.
Gwon-gyokdo is a Korean form of kickboxing. It combines elements of karate, taekwondo, and Chinese Kung Fu. Most gwon gyokdo fighters wear shin guards and sparring gloves. Their kicks and strikes are fast and powerful.

Muay Thai is a full-contact version of kickboxing. In this style, fighters can strike their opponents with any body part. The goal is to knock out your opponent using only kicks and punches. There are no rules governing how much force can be used.
The term “semi-contact” refers to a type of fighting style where punches and kicks are allowed, but knees and elbows aren’t. This differs from complete contact, where both hands and feet are used. In semi-contact, there are no rules against holding onto your opponent, and you’re free to clinch and throw strikes.
In semi-contact, there are four types of techniques: strikes, throws, sweeps, and takedowns. Strikes include punches, jabs, hooks, crosses, uppercuts, and straights. Throws are thrown with either the left or right hand. Sweeps are performed by throwing one arm around your opponent while the opposite arm stays loose. Takedowns involve grabbing your opponent and pulling him down.
A match consists of three 3-minute rounds, with a 1-minute break between rounds. Each round ends when one competitor scores 10 points. If neither contestant reaches 10 points, the match continues into sudden death over time. Overtime begins immediately following the end of the third round.

Common Kickboxing Combination
This is one of my favorite combinations because it combines two different types of strikes into one combo. I like to use it when I’m working on improving my jabbing technique.
The start of combination begins with the left foot coming down to land a solid punch. You want to ensure that your foot’s heel hits the floor first and then the ball of your foot. If you don’t do this correctly, you won’t generate much power behind your punch. After landing the punch, you immediately follow it up with a solid kick to the body.
As soon as you land the kick, you want to push off your leg and come forward while simultaneously extending your arm out towards your opponent. Your goal is to keep your fist pointed directly at your opponent. At the same time, you want to move your head away from him to avoid getting hit.
When you throw the punch, you want to move toward your opponent. Once you’ve thrown the punch, you want your elbow bent at 90 degrees. This helps you to maximize the force of the blow. In addition, you want to extend your hand straight.
How to Wrap Your Hands for Kickboxing
Wrap your hands so that your thumb is pointing towards your face. The other fingers should point outward. When wrapping your hands, you want to make sure that there’s enough room between each finger. If you’re using gloves, you can also wrap them around your wrists.
